Senior executives of Air New Zealand paid a flying visit to Rarotonga on the 15th November. This was the first visit to the Cook Islands for new Air New Zealand Chief Executive Christopher Luxon who later provided a keynote speech and presented awards at the 2013 Cook Islands Tourism Awards.

Air Rarotonga took the opportunity to present Mr Luxon with a spectacular aerial photograph of Aitutaki in recognition of the Carriers 40th anniversary of international jet service to Rarotonga.

Air New Zealand's connection with Aitutaki goes back to 1947 when services commenced using DC3s, followed by Shorts Solent flying boats plying the famous Coral Route throughout the 1950s. Today, Air New Zealand maintains the connection with code-shared service on Air Rarotonga up to five times daily.
